Sowmya Somanath is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction. She received her MSc and PhD from the University of Calgary focused on creating new tangible experiences. At OCAD she directs the Interactive Futures Lab, Her group works on projects motivated by real world needs, exploring various experiences involving new physical technologies. Her research program is funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and her work is published in premier HCI venues such as ACM CHI, TEI, and HRI.
